Intercorporeality

Intercorporeality

Philosopher Merleau-Ponty described how our bodies, in the act of seeing, are unconsciously connected to the bodies of others. Under this effect he called "intercorporeality," the moment we perceive another's movement, we begin to live it in our own body. Using ToF camera sensing data, this work reconstructs two pairs of hands across time and space, layered into an archive that asks whether we can become aware of another's corporeality.

A Haptic Interface to Foster Human–Plant Interaction

Haptic Interface

In NII's "Masters of Informatics" program, I developed a haptic interface that conveys the vitality of plants, fostering psychological connection between people and nature. While traditional science and philosophy tend to treat plants as objects or resources from a human-centered perspective, this research evokes a sense of co-presence through touch — presenting nature not as an opposing entity but as a community. Empirical experiments confirmed that the interface improves the psychological connection between humans and nature.

Tele-Plant: A Plant Avatar for Instant Embodiment

Tele-Plant

Developed as part of the Kansai Tech Creator Challenge (Cybernetic Avatar track), Tele-Plant uses a head-mounted display to embody users as plants, leveraging the Proteus effect to foster empathy toward nature. Field trials at Osaka ATC, combined with semi-structured interviews, confirmed the system's effect on empathy toward the natural world.
